An aspirin test has been performed in 100 asthma patients. The response of the bronchi appeared contradictory: aspirin asthma on the one hand, and bronchodilatation on the other occurred in 31 and 28 patients, respectively; 41 patients appeared nonresponders. Maximum effect of the drug was noted in the small bronchi. Desensitization to aspirin and hemosorption reduced asthma patients sensitivity to nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs.

The rise of the sepsis incidence at therapeutic hospitals, the emergence of new forms and evolutionally new mechanisms of infection, insufficient efficacy of antibacterial therapy necessitate the search of novel approaches to the treatment of sepsis. The use of plasmapheresis (PP) in 27 sepsis patients allowed a two-fold reduction of the lethality as compared to that in the control group. The main mechanisms by which PP acts may involve deblockade of the system of phagocytosing mononuclears, enhancement of the efficacy of antibacterial therapy, protective action on the system of natural detoxication of the body.

The effect of the plasma obtained before and after graded submaximal exercise was examined in 10 bronchial asthma patients with the syndrome of asthma of physical effort (APE) by means of fluorescent exploration using the cation probe 4-(p-demethylaminostyryl)-1-methylpyridinum and rat thymocytes as a test system. Four normal donors and five bronchial asthma patients without the APE syndrome were used as control. The plasma of patients with the APE syndrome, obtained after physical exercise, brought about a decrease of the number of fluorescent cells. In APE patients, the coefficient of the drop of thymocyte fluorescence amounted to 0.65 +/- 0.04, that in the control group to 1.1 +/- 0.08 (p less than 0.01). It is assumed that after physical exercise in the plasma of APE patients, there may occur factor depolarizing the membrane of thymocytes, which is likely to play a substantial role in the pathogenesis of the afterload bronchospasm.

Oral aspirin test was performed in 50 asthma patients. Of them 18 patients exhibited idiosyncrasy to the drug. All the patients were subjected to hemosorption. Subsequently, 16 patients achieved remission. The hemosorption resulted in reduction of tracheobronchial hypersensitivity, especially to PGE2 alpha. Phagocytosis and T-cell immunity returned to normal. Sixteen patients underwent aspirin desensitization which had a more potent action on the function of beta-adrenergic receptors of the smooth muscles of the bronchi. Complete desensitization in 3 patients was recorded only after 1-3 hemosorption sessions.

Blood was perfused through 2 series connected columns during immunosorption. The first column contained a mixture of immunosorbent and activated carbon, the second activated carbon only. In most patients the perfusion time was 40 min, and the volume of perfused blood 2000 ml. The procedure was performed under the conditions of operative control over the state of the cardiovascular and respiratory system using a monitor-computer system KOMPAS-01 in order to follow 5 hemodynamics values and 10 values of external respiration. A considerable effect of the procedure on the patients' hemodynamic patterns was revealed during hemosorption. These changes manifested themselves mainly in a decrease in stroke volume, cardiac output and changes in rate of the heart beat. External respiration values were more stable.
